Pilot Training FAQ
How long will my training take?
The duration of your training depends on how often you take lessons. If you schedule 2-3 lessons per week you can expect your training to take from 5-6 months.
How much will it cost?
The cost of your training again depends on the frequency of your lessons. The closer your lessons are scheduled the more information you will retain and the quicker you will move through the program. If you schedule 2-3 lessons per week you can expect to pay between $4,500 and $6,000 to get your Private Pilot license.
Are there set training dates and times?
There are no set training dates and times. We work around your schedule. Our instructors are available whenever you are available. Even though the syllabus is very structured, the scheduling is not.
How many lessons should I schedule per week?
We recommend you schedule at least 2 lessons per week and schedule at least 3 weeks in advance.
What can I do with my license?
There are only two things you cannot do with your license. You cannot fly for hire (get compensated for flying) and you cannot fly in weather that is less than that required for VFR (visual flight rules) flight.
What happens during bad weather?
All pilot certificates and ratings require ground training as well as flight training. If you cannot fly due to inclement weather, ground school will be substituted. Whenever you have a lesson scheduled, plan on coming in rain or shine. This will be at the discretion of the instructor.
If my instructor is gone, can I fly with another instructor?
Yes you can. Although the majority of your training will be with the same instructor, it is always beneficial to get someone else's perspective on flight training.
What aircraft will I train in?
Training is conducted in a Cessna 172 or a Remos light sport aircraft. The Cessna 172 seats four persons and is designed for safe and economical flight training. The Remos is a two person aircraft.
After I get my license, can I rent an airplane on my own?
Yes you can. If you want to rent an aircraft at any other flight school you will have to go through a 1-2 hour checkout flight with a pilot from that school.
Can I rent an aircraft other than the type I trained in?
Our flight school and other flight schools require a separate checkout for each aircraft flown. For example, if you got your license in a Cessna 172 you would need a separate checkout to fly a Cessna 150.
